Fashion: Black Models Rising (S/S 09)
I'm wondering did Sophie Theallet use only black models at her S/S09 show to make a political statement or is this an indication of the present fashion zeitgeist (President Obama etc) and if so, is it a fad? After the hullabaloo over the 'all black' Italian Vogue many of us feared 'the-mode-noir' debate would simply fad away but low and behold (hallelujah) the S/S 09 shows featured more black models than usual. Burkinabe Georgie Badiel (above), Sudanese Ataui Deng, Malian Nana Keita (Red Model Management), Ethiopian model Yordanos Teshager, Brazilian Samira Carvalho Bento (Ford Models) joined model of the moment Jourdan Dunn (Storm Model Management) and past favorites Chanel Iman, Arlenis Sosa, Hollis Wakeema, Sonja Wanda, Sessilee Lopez, Kinée Diouf and Honorine Uwera on the catwalks. Asian models Lakshmi Menon and Liu Wen rocked it too.
