Since celebrating the ever fabulous Julia Sarr-Jamois in my ‘Afro-Divas’ piece -last June, -Ms Sarr-Jamois has gone from model, to [fashion] stylist –to fully paid-up member of the front-row ‘fash-pack’ in her role as fashion editor of Wonderland magazine.. Of Senegalese and French heritage, –Julia’s ‘high-end-relaxed-sexy-tomboy’ style is all her own. And moves graciously from: one-off jeans and slouchy tops/cashmere v-necks and men’s jackets –with brogues to killer vamp in an all black ensemble and skyscraper heels –effortlessly….
Sam & Ruby Live- "Heaven's My Home" from sammy b on Vimeo.
If Ruby Amanfu and Sam Brooker aka Sam & Ruby’s sweet, folksy music was a colour - it would most definitely be yellow! Honey-sweet, sunshine music [that would melt –the hardest heart] –this duo is rocking a melodious sexy mix of: country, soul and a certain something -that’s all-their-own. Ruby’s pretty, post Dolly Parton, -nouveau-Nashville voice –is beautifully redolent on ‘The Suitcase Song’ and ‘The Here And Now’ –and their ‘Heaven’s My Home’ featured in the film, ‘The Secret Life of Bees’. I stumbled across a fabulous blog called 'Models' a couple of days ago and the above editorials [and more] from various glossies -can be found there. I love it and have subscribed…..check it out at: http://picsandmodels.blogspot.com/
*Note: Regular readers to Fashion et al know that wherever possible -I credit all Blogs/websites/magazines if I take photographs/ideas etc but after many months of stumbling across various blogs/websites etc that have being copying my two blogs –it reach a its zenith/crescendo when I came across a blog via an African magazine website [I’m a fan via facebook –and thus I’m updated regularly] that didn’t only copy my style or celebrate the various fashionistas that I do [I don't have a problem with –its good to see black stylish women celebrated] but has also called her blog ‘fashion et al’ -can you Adam-and-Eve it? I have grown-up folks -because even though she is doing all this -I’m not upset, –I am very flattered! But I think its shows ‘some’ style -if you credit the rightful people with their rightful work/ideas/images etc .............xx
Why not add one of Liberty ‘Hot’ prints to your wrist this season -with their new ‘Liberty Knot Watch’? Made from a variety of Liberty’s exclusive print fabrics, -the Liberty Knot Watch comes in a variety of prints [classic or 60’s print fabric ] to match or clash fabulously with any outfit -and can be tied, twisted and doubled up for however you like to wear your watch...............
Blogland’s awash with burning su-su-su [gossip to you] about sista Janet’s newly cropped hair [the big jagger-jagger issue being –whether she really cut her hair or just took out her weave-on or if she’s loosing her locks –thanks to years of wig wearing…..my goodness!] Personally, I love it. She looks light, happy [she's in a new relationship] and natural –what’s not to love?
I’ve loved Zoë Kravitz’s style -forever. She’s how I imagine a lovechild of Lou Doillon and model/DJ Joy Vieli –would look like. She is –in my opinion a trendsetter! I love the way Zoë can go from slouchy rock princess in one-off t-shirts and customized denim shorts combo to uber groomed urban-socialite in cute-as-a-button Chanel dresses [Karl Lagerfeld’s a family friend] in a flash……x
